Chelum Okoro

Chelum is an Analyst at The Connecticut Project where she manages and supports programmatic operations including grant making processes, communications, and organizational relationships.

Prior to joining The Connecticut Project, Chelum worked at Yale Conferences & Events as a Program Assistant, supporting the coordination of conferences, events, and summer programs. Additionally, Chelum worked at Save The Children supporting donor retention and fundraising. Chelum also held a role as a House Manager with the International Festival of Arts & Ideas, providing on-ground support, while overseeing the Festival’s Front of House Staff.

Why do you do the work?

As a Connecticut native, I am grateful for the opportunity to work with an organization that is committed to improving the lives of our neighbors and fostering social change. I am passionate about creating opportunities for individuals who have been denied them due to unjust systems and structures. It is important to contribute to initiatives that provide people access to resources that will allow them to reach their full potential.

What are some specific places or things you love in Connecticut?

I find myself venturing the food scene in Connecticut (mostly in the New Haven and Hartford area). Some of my favorites are Tandoor New Haven, Modern, Black-Eyed Sally’s, and so much more! When I’m not spending my time being a foodie, you can find me going for a hike at Wadsworth Falls Park or thrift shopping at CT’s local shops!
